As we grow closer to Croptober, I wanted to look back and review some hash from this year before the flood of fresh products that’ll be available by winter.
In this article, I’ll review eight hash strains based on scent, flavor, and the high. To get a clear idea of how these products will affect me, I decided to test them in three separate ways: smoking it with flower in a joint, vaping it on its own in a hash pipe, and mixing it with flower in an Arizer Solo 2 dry-herb vape.
Some were too high quality to burn, or I simply forgot to burn them.
Strawberry Queen – Garden First – Pressed hash – ( ? X ? ) (Sativa-Hybrid)
Scent: Upon opening the little jar, strong scents of earthy, oily hash and farm-fresh strawberries wafted into my face. Reminds me of a strain I’ve had in the past called Strawberry-Diesel ( NYC Sour D X Strawberry Cough)
Taste: The taste of this hash did not match the nose. Upon vaporizing this hash in my pipe, I got a strong dirt-like flavor coating the inside of my mouth. I find really earthy strains to be a bit much, and this was too much.
Oddly, when I mixed this hash with some Alien Dream flower into my dry herb vape, the strong earthy flavor faded. However, I couldn’t taste the flower, so I think they cancel each other out in terms of flavor.
High: Upon exhaling the vapor, I could feel a powerful buzzing sensation go down from the top of my head down to my neck. My vision became narrow and focused. It also gave me a gnarly case of the munchies. Though intense, the high only lasted about 15 to 20 minutes.
When mixed with some flower in my vape, the high was surprisingly clear. Still got the munchies. (This is one of four I didn’t try in joint form. I forgot)
Final Thoughts: Despite the horrid flavor, I liked this hash. It was a lot of fun to smoke while gaming, as it allowed me to focus and immerse myself in the world of Baldur’s Gate 3. I think it was better in the pipe by itself than mixed with the flower in the vape.

Strong but short high, bad flavor…
Drip Drop – Sand Castle Hash Co. – 4* bubble hash – (Cherry Koff X Gas Drop) (Indica Hybrid)
Scent: This hash reeks of sweet pine and cheese. I like that it has a strong, pronounced scent; it makes me think of old-school weed strains like UK Cheese (a Skunk #1 phenotype).
Taste: When vaped on its own, this hash tastes sweet like honey with hints of cheese, forest floor, and gas. However, when mixed with flower in my vape, it produced a strong floral flavor reminiscent of lavender, followed by a cheesy aftertaste.
No noticeable flavor from the joint.
High: When rolled into a joint of some Alien Dream flower, this hash had a very clear-headed high that left me feeling blissful. I got a similar feeling when I mixed it with some flower into my vape and toked it out of my bong.
However, when I vaped it out of my hash pipe, it was a completely different high. It made me feel super energetic, and I could feel a warm vibration pulsing through every inch of me. Feeling like a ball of energy, I decided to go to the gym for a little while to burn it off.
Final Thoughts: Overall, I like this product and would definitely buy it again for its pungent flavor and unique high. It’s similar to the Georgia Pie hash I recently tried, which was labeled as an Indica-Hybrid but had more sativa-esque effects. I like this Drip Drop better because it gave me energy without making me anxious.
Additionally, I have found that this strain helped clear up a headache I had, as it eased the tension from the base of my neck up to my head.

Great hash, funky flavor
Power Plant – Sand Castle Hash Co. – 4* bubble hash – (South African Sativa backcross) (Sativa Hybrid)
According to Dutch Passion Seeds, their strain Power Plant has never been hybridized and has only been backcrossed. Fun fact: The strain was originally released in 1997, making it 29 years old.
Scent: This is the first hash I’ve ever had that hasn’t had a distinct smell. I’ve tried multiple times to catch a whiff, but alas, nothing. I’m not sure whether the shop I bought it from didn’t store it properly, or if it was just never that aromatic to start with.
Taste: Despite not really smelling like anything, this hash does have a subtle flavor of smoked wood, forest floor, and sage. Felt soothing on the throat when vaped out of the hash pipe.
No noticeable flavor from the joint or vape.
High: Initially, when I vaped this in my pipe, I didn’t feel anything for about a minute, but then suddenly a wave of buzzing crept over my whole body. For about an hour, I felt alert and awake. If you’re a wake-and-baker, this might be a good morning smoke to pair with your coffee.
However, when rolled into a joint with some Blue Suede Zookies, a balanced hybrid from William’s Wonder Farm, and smoked, it produced a very speedy, overwhelming high that left me feeling like my mind was roaring at 120 MPH while my body stood still.
Oddly, when mixed with flower in my vape, they seemed to cancel each other out, and I couldn’t distinguish one high from the other.
Final Thoughts: I’ll be honest, I’m kinda split on the product. I like how it makes me feel when I vape it in my pipe, and I like the subtle smoky/herbal flavor, but otherwise I dislike how this strain feels in a joint and in the Arizer. Additionally, the lack of scent knocks this hash down a few points for me.

No nose and speedy, but interesting flavor.
Joker’s Kief mix – Highness Hash – Kief – (?x?) (Sativa-Hybrid)
Scent: This keif has a very forward sweetness, making me think of cherries covered in a sugar glaze. Odd…
Taste: When vaped in my hash pipe, this kief tastes like bitter dirt. Both joint and dry-herb vapes lacked a distinct flavor.
High: The high I got from vaping this keif in my pipe was underbearing, but it did make me hungry. It just feels meh. Even rolled into an Alien Dream joint, the high was meh. Made me hungry again, though.
However, it did amplify the high from the Alien Dream in my Arizer, leaving me feeling sedated as I puffed thick white clouds.
Final Thoughts: Honestly, I don’t like this product. I think it tastes gross, the high is short-lived, and severely underwhelming. However, for $10, it’s not the worst kief in the world, as it will get you high, but there are far better options.

Banana Orange Pineapple – Highness Hash – Full-melt bubble hash – (Banana Shack x Diamond Glands) (Sativa-Hybrid)
Scent: This one-gram dollop of hash smells like sour, bitter citrus. It makes me think of taking a walk through an orange farm during late summer.
Taste: When vaped from my pipe, this hash tastes like tart yet juicy summer fruit, ready for harvest. Probably one of the best-tasting products I’ve ever had.
High: When vaped from my pipe, the hash made my spine feel relaxed, and my mind felt clear but unfocused.
(This is two of four I didn’t smoke in a joint or the vape, it’s too good to waste)
Final Thoughts: Despite how much I love this hash, I don’t think I will buy it again because it’s a Nectar-exclusive brand. In case you’re unaware, Nectar, a dispensary mega-chain, has faced a slew of controversies, including breaches of contract, failing to comply with mold regulations, and accusations of slashing workers’ hours without notice. I cannot support a brand like that with a good conscience, so this will be my last purchase from them. ANYWHO…

Amazing, flavorful hash, but will not purchase again.
Banana Shack – Highness Hash – Full-melt bubble hash – (Honey Banana x Joy of Missing Out) Labeled (Sativa-Hybrid), but on Leafly it says (Indica-Hybrid)
Scent: This little gram of hash has a very faint smell of toffee and fresh soil.
Taste: Despite multiple attempts to taste this product from my hash pipe, I can’t land on any particular flavor to describe. However, I did notice a subtle, fruity, somewhat oily undertone when smoked from a joint or vaped in the Arizer.
High: When vaped from my pipe, I could feel a great deal of relaxation coming from my neck and head. My mind felt distorted and spacey. However, when mixed with flower into my vape, it mellowed out the initially stoney high into a subtle sedation that allowed for some functionality.
Final Thoughts: Like many other products on this list, this hash defies its labels and leans more toward the indica side of the spectrum. I really like how this hash made me feel, but the lack of a strong nose makes me think I’ll pass on it next time.

Good high, but nothing special.
Chocolate Hash – Higher Culture – Live Hash Rosin – (Chocolate Kush x Blackberry Kush) (Hybrid)
Scent: Upon cracking open the 2-gram bucket, I was greeted by scents of milk chocolate, pungent cheese, and herbs like dill.
Taste: When vaped from my pipe, it had a smooth, chocolatey taste, followed by a nutty flavor. It’s like if I had stuck a dark chocolate peanut butter cup into my pipe and vaped it. It was quite yummy.

High: Upon vaporization, this hash delivered a subtle head high that made my vision buzz. It’s a little weak, but I don’t mind that as it has a nice flavor and scent.
Final Thoughts: I think I’m just going to treat this hash like fine wine and crack into it only now and then, as it’s not potent enough to use as a daily driver but flavorful enough to savor. It’s a nice dessert strain.

Mimosa x Superboof – Bubble Craft – Bubblehash – (Sativa-Hybrid)
Scent: This hash smells like juicy oranges sliced open and coated in white sugar. It reminds me of the massive orange tree that grew in my Grandma’s backyard in San Francisco. I used to climb it as a child and pick the best-looking fruit from the top of the tree. We used to make popsicles out of the juice.
Taste: When vaped from the pipe, this hash tastes spicy, like smoked paprika, and sweet, like sugar, with notes of ripe oranges.

High: The high I got from vaping this product was extremely speedy. I felt a strong, energetic buzz coursing throughout my whole body. Additionally, it made my head feel hazy. I had a very hard time thinking clearly because my thoughts were racing.
Final Thoughts: While tasty, I think this hash is really potent, and, like the Chocolate Hash, I’m going to savor this one slowly. A little of this stuff goes a long way, so be sure not to overdo it, because I did, and I got anxious. So take it slow! Lastly, for $17, I think that this was a steal based on the potency and the flavor.

♚BONUS FLOWER REVIEW♚
Pacific Purple – Ripped City – (Pacific Blue x Purple Kush) – (90% Indica-Hybrid)
This strain has a little bit of a backstory that I’d like to share with you. According to the strain’s creator, Falcanna, a cannabis farm based in Washington state, Pacific Purple is a cross of their Pacific Blue (Pre-98 Bubba Kush x DJ Short’s Blueberry) and a cutting of Purple Kush (a pheno of Purple Hindu Kush) they got from a California medical marijuana patient.
Scent: This flower smells musky yet floral like a perfume.
Taste: When vaped from my Arizer Solo 2, my tongue was blasted with a sweet basil & coconut cream flavor. It might sound strange, but it reminds me of Thai green curry, making it one of the more savory strains I’ve had.
Another savory strain I’ve had is Garlic Butter (GMO x Fortune Cookies), which straight up tasted like a beef gravy you’d pour over a pot roast. Notes of garlic, rosemary, and beef shouted from the flower.
When smoked in a joint with kief, this Pacific Purple had a sweet, smoky flavor.
High: When vaped, the high starts very subtly. I noticed a slight change in my vision, but it didn’t really hit me until I tried to go for another hit. My body felt rigid. I managed to take my next hit, but was blown back into the couch and locked into a deep state of relaxation.
When mixed with the Joker kief into a joint, the high was much less intense despite having more THC content than the flower on its own. I was able to take my dog for a walk through Pier Park in St. Johns. I had a decent body buzz, and my vision felt a little brighter. The sounds of the birds singing felt crisper than normal.
Final Thoughts: Overall, I really like this flower for its unique savory flavor, and I look forward to having more strains like this and Garlic Butter in the future. Additionally, I’m surprised to have gotten such a strong couchlock feeling from the flower, as the last time I had a flower that strong was the Purple Hindu Kush I reviewed prior. It just goes to show the capabilities of modern hybrids.
However it was a little dry…
