Last time on Red Eye Files, I reviewed an old-school strain called Purple Hindu Kush that redefined the way I look at hybrids in the Portland cannabis market.
Experiencing what Savage Skunk Farms had to offer made me realize that not all hybrids are watered-down versions of their mother plants, and that modern genetics may have something unique to offer.
So, in the spirit of keeping an open mind, I’ve decided to review two different modern hybrids, one in flower form and another in hash form. To better understand how these products would effect me, I decided to vaporize each strain individually using two different methods: an Arizer Solo 2 dry herb vape and a glass pipe specifically designed for smoking hash.

In this article, I’ll be reviewing an ounce of Alien Dream flower from Oregon Roots and two grams of 4-star Georgia Pie bubble hash from Sand Castle Hash Co., based on taste, scent, and potency.
ALIEN DREAM – Oregon Roots – Miracle Alien Cookies X Blue Dream (Sativa-leaning hybrid)
Scent: Upon opening my jar of Alien Dream, I got notes of sesame oil, sweet cream, and gasoline. If you’re a cannabis enthusiast like me, you just might recognize similar scents protruding from cultivars such as OG KUSH or Scouts Honor (an OG Kush Breath backcross).
Taste: I vaped about 0.3 grams in my Arizer Solo 2 and, upon reflection, noticed a sesame oil flavor, followed by a tartness like sour berries and hints of citrus. While there is some flavor, it’s oddly not as strong as the scent of the flower itself.
Potency: According to the test results, this batch of Alien Dream tested at 24% THC. Despite its lower THC content, this cultivar was plenty potent. Within minutes of my first inhale of the oily vapor, my muscles became completely relaxed, and I could feel my mind slip into a stupor. As I continued to puff, I sank into my couch and let the vibrations take me away from life’s stress.
Final Thoughts: On its own, this batch of Alien Dream by Oregon Roots is a very solid smoke, and this is actually the second time I’ve had this strain. I love how this strain smells; it’s very similar to OG Kush, which is known to have a gassy, creamy, and piney aroma.

While I think this strain is solid, the flavor doesn’t quite match the nose.
7/10
Good Bud, fun genetics, but could use a little improvement.
Georgia Pie – Sand Castle Hash Co. – Gelatti x Kush Mints (Indica-leaning hybrid)
Scent: The two grams of Georgia Pie bubble hash I purchased smelled of brown sugar, with faint traces of pine. The scent makes me think of taking a walk through the forest on a nice fall day.
Taste: When vaped in my special pipe, this hash has a strong, spicy yet earthy flavor reminiscent of cinnamon, without the sweetness of sugar.
Potency: According to the test results, this batch of Georgia Pie is 50% THC and lord let me tell you this hash is quite stoney. First of all, despite it being an Indica-leaning hybrid, the high was primarily a head high. I had a hard time focusing on anything other than my own thoughts, which were slowed down to a crawl. It also made my face feel numb, a feeling I haven’t felt since dabbling with opioids.
Final Thoughts: I’ll be honest, I have mixed feelings about this hash. It was a little too heady for me, as I like couch lock indicas that make your body go numb. However, I do think this strain pairs really well with UK EDM artists like Aphex Twin or Boards of Canada. One time, I smoked this hash in the morning, and it gave me some intense anxiety because of the negative thought spirals I found myself trapped in.
If you’re a music lover like me, I think this Georgia Pie bubble hash could have something to offer, but if you’re also prone to anxiety like me, take it slow as a little goes a long way.

5/10
Solid hash but too heady for my liking.
