I love classic marijuana strains like Lemon Skunk and Chemdawg; that’s why when I saw that The Dime Store, a small walk-in dispensary in North Portland, had some, I knew I had to check it out.
Skunk Valley Farm (also known as Skunk Farm), a certified organic farm based in Sandy, Oregon, grew both strains.
This time on Red Eye Files, I’m reviewing their Lemon Skunk and Chemdawg flower based on their scents, flavors, and the effects they give me. After reviewing the two strains individually, I’ll compare them and tell you which one I think is the best.
To get a clear idea of how these products work, I’ll be vaping them in my Arizer Solo 2 dry-herb vape attached to my bong.

Lemon Skunk – Sativa-Hybrid
The History: Depending on which cut or seed Skunk Valley Farm used, the genetics of this bud could be the following:
Las Vegas Lemon Skunk X Skunk #1 (DNA Genetics)
Citrus Skunk X Skunk #1 (BC Lemon Skunk)
Skunk #1 X Citral
Assuming it’s the DNA Genetics version, this strain has won multiple awards, including the Highlife Cup and being named one of the Top 10 strains of 2009 by High Times Magazine.
According to the test results provided by Chemhistory, this strain tests at 27% THC and was harvested on Aug. 31st, 2026. Making it a summer harvest.
Scent: This Lemon Skunk smells of lemon peel, skunk, pungent cheese, gasoline, butter, and hints of black pepper. It’s a pretty complex smell.
Taste: Despite having such a complex scent, when inhaled and exhaled, it becomes a lot simpler in flavor, with hints of black pepper and citrus.
High: When vaped, this strain made my head buzz and made me feel calm. The high felt very focused in my eyes, as lights looked brighter. I felt like there was a disconnect between my mind and body. I could think clearly, but the buzzing in my head made it hard to move even though I wanted to.
Chemdawg – 50/50 Hybrid
The History: Chemdawg was originally released in 1991 by cultivator Greg “Chemdog” Krzanowski, who claims to have gotten the original seeds from an ounce of “Dog bud” or “Chem bud” from growers P-Bud and Joe Brand. The name of the strain comes from a combination of the two names Krzanowski had heard. This is a summary of a very long history. If you want the full story, check out the High Times 25 Years of Chem Dog article.
According to the test results provided by Chemhistory, this strain tests at 23% THC and was harvested on Aug. 11, making it a summer harvest.
Scent: Upon popping open the mylar bag, subtle hints of black pepper creep through. It unfortunately doesn’t have a strong smell.
Taste: When vaped, this Chemdawg has no strong flavor. This is one of the blandest Chem strains I have ever tasted.
High: When I exhaled, I felt a subtle buzz creep through my head like a thick fog. It’s a very weak high, in my opinion.
The Verdict: From the get-go, it’s pretty clear which one of these strains is better. It’s the Lemon Skunk because of its scent, flavor, and high. However, I will say that the Chemdawg is aesthetically pleasing, as it has a nice bud structure and is a beautiful shade of green complemented by reddish-brown pistils.
It makes me a little bummed as I do enjoy Chem strains. My cousin grew a solid Chem 91 that I still think about.
But that Lemon Skunk checks all the boxes that I look for in a flower. It’s a robust, aromatic take on a classic cultivar with a strong head high. Buy some while you can; I sure will.
